Eskbank House comes clean on conservation

During January, the team at Eskbank House has been undertaking a conservation-cleaning program of the exhibitions throughout the property.

It’s not happening behind closed doors though. Instead, visitors are encouraged to come and see the team hard at work and ask questions about how the museum and its objects are conserved, while learning a bit about looking after precious memorabilia at home.

The project also presents a chance to rectify some of the mistakes from the past, where overly enthusiastic volunteers inadvertently chose the wrong cleaning agents.

But it’s not just about cleaning; its a time to catalogue and complete condition reports on each item on display.

We visited Eskbank House & Museum to learn more about their cleaning journey.
