This guide aims to assist the sector to make informed decisions around viable, economically and environmentally sustainable methods of exhibition practice and collections care by identifying appropriate technologies, products and systems.
It presents practical advice on common operational challenges in areas of lighting and climate control. Content is divided into four areas covering:
- The museum/gallery environment;
- Design considerations and methodologies;
- Sustainable design strategies; and
- Practical implementation.
Prepared by leading consultancy firms Steensen Varming and International Conservation Services, A Practical Guide for Sustainable Climate Control and Lighting in Museums and Galleries is informed by national and international theory and practice.
A Case Study on Lighting for Museums and Galleries
The aim of this case study is to provide museums and galleries with a range of real-life examples to assist when upgrading or replacing their institution’s lighting systems. demonstrates a variety of options for different institutions, lighting situations and budgets. The case studies examine the practicalities, challenges and long-term benefits, addressing ‘What worked?’ ‘What are the energy savings?’ and ‘What learnings can be shared?’
