Contemporary Outsider Art: The Global Context invites artists, curators, collectors and scholars to deliver papers
on Outsider Art in Europe, North America, Asia or Oceania and may consider the following issues:
• The experiences of Outsider Artists and how their processes of making are distinctive
• How contexts affect the practice and reception of Outsider Artists
• Ethical considerations that are important for Outsider Artists
• The drivers of contemporary collecting and the market for Outsider Art
• Issues faced by public and private collectors in acquiring and conserving Outsider works
• Models for exhibiting Outsider Art and for showing alongside other forms of art
• The relationship between Outsider Art and the mainstream world to which it relates
• Current issues arising in the definition of the field
• The effects of Outsider Art’s institutionalization and commodification on the meaning of works
• Approaches to curating Outsider Art and working with living artists
• Indigenous art practice in relation to Outsider Art
Selected papers will be published in a conference proceedings.
