Sector Census 2026

Welcome to the Museums & Galleries of NSW 2026 Sector Census.

What is the Census?

This Sector Census is a major research initiative conducted every four years to gather reliable sector-wide data on operations, collections, staffing, visitation, funding, facilities and organisational sustainability.

We understand that the demands on organisations are very high, and we have focused this year’s Census on the most pressing issues and useful information which will be shared with all participants.

How will the data be used?

The data collected will be used to create a comprehensive snapshot of the sector, identify trends and measure change. It will help Museums & Galleries of NSW advocate for the sector, inform policy and program development, and provide government and other agencies with reliable evidence to support planning, funding and decision making.
