Biennale of Sydney are looking for an emerging curator to be awarded the Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellowship and be mentored by Stephanie Rosenthal, Artistic Director of the 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016). The Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellowship was established in 2011 by the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council for the Arts in partnership with the Biennale of Sydney to celebrate the memory of Nick Waterlow OAM (1941–2009) and the extraordinary contribution he made to Australian and international contemporary visual arts.

Nick Waterlow was the Biennale’s most prolific artistic director. He curated the 1979, 1986 and 1988 exhibitions, and was Chair of the International Selection Committee in 2000. For 11 years (1994–2005), Nick Waterlow also served on the Board of the Biennale of Sydney. From 1980–83, Nick Waterlow was also the Director of the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council.

The Fellowship is an opportunity to be awarded to an Australian emerging curator who will be mentored by Stephanie Rosenthal, Artistic Director of the 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016).

The Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellow is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the Artistic Director’s research, which includes research and writing content for the catalogue and guidebook, as well as working as part of the exhibition team on the planning, administration, development and delivery of the exhibition.

This is a two-year, full-time Fellowship related to the 2016 event for the period from 5 January 2015 to 30 December 2016. The remuneration is $55,000 per annum (including 9.5% employer’s superannuation contribution).
