Orange Regional Museum is open for business

Orange Regional Museum is open! After many years of lobbying, funds chasing and community energy, Orange finally has a new museum. The official opening was held on Saturday 19 November 2016 where The Hon Andrew Gee, Federal Member for Parkes, did the honours followed by a congratulatory speech from Cr John Davis, Orange City Mayor.

The inaugural exhibition Journeys: people, place, stories offers the visitor objects and tales from the region, beginning with a welcome from a Wiradjuri elder. The large graphic on the walls form a distinctive backdrop to iconic objects and clear text panels. A large screen provides gorgeous colour and movement with moving images of the natural environment on Mount Canobolas.

The new exhibition aims to tell the stories of Orange and the surrounding region by examining the journeys of people and place through time.  Beginning with the region’s first inhabitants, the Wiradjuri people, Journeys explores the connection to country told through stories, places and artefacts. Progressing along the path of history, the exhibition follows the stories of the people who travelled to make their fortunes and eventually, their homes here.  Without giving too much away, we can tell you that the exhibition will include some old-favourites, along with some never-seen before objects.

Congratulations to Alison Russell, Museum Manager and Heritage Co-ordinator, and the rest of the Orange Regional Museum team!
