About the Project
The Collection Enhancement Project (CEP) is a significant project that aims to register and digitise the biological, geological, and cultural collections of the museum. This includes registering all collection material in the digital collection management system, photographing cultural collection materials, barcoding, supporting community consultation activities and enhancing documentation and metadata.
About the Role
We require a Database Support Officer on a full-time temporary four year contract.
The role is critical in supporting the implementation of system enhancements to support the Australian Museum’s (AM) Collection Enhancements Project, our DAMS uplift project, as well as contributing to continuous system improvements and day-to-day administration.
Use your prior experience in a database or systems role and demonstrated experience in digital collection management systems to enhance the Australian Museum’s (AM) digital collection management system, EMu, and its integrations with internal and external digital asset management, digital preservation and discovery systems, including Fotoware and the Atlas of Living Australia.
The Database Support Officer is also responsible for the day to day operations of the Digital Collection Management Systems, Fotoware and EMu, implements data quality and standard checks for data capture, storage and access to achieve project outcomes and support for system users in the museum, with special focus towards the Digital Media Library and digital preservation.

You will be paid a competitive annual salary $79,032 – $86,539, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation (currently 11.5%) and annual leave loading.
About you
We are seeking someone with experience in database and collection system administration and technical support. A particular interest or experience in digital media management or digital preservation would be an advantage.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, dynamic and focussed, working efficiently whilst assisting with delivery of multiple projects as well as the continued improvements of the systems. An interest in natural sciences, photography, arts or history would be an asset for this position as well as being comfortable working both as a team and independently on tasks.
Knowledge & Experience
· Experience in Collection System and multimedia administration and support
· Demonstrated advanced skills, experience and expertise in database manipulation and management preferably in a Museum or natural history context.
· Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in data management including databasing and data import, data reporting and access, and creating and implementing data standards.
· Demonstrated experience with large museum datasets preferably of both cultural and taxonomic nature.
· Experience or interest in multimedia databases and digital record management and preservation.
