10 AGENTS OVER 10 MONTHS #3: DISSOCIATION

Join us at online forum #3 DISSOCIATION of our 10 AGENTS OVER 10 MONTHS series with guest speakers Dr Athanasios Velios and Margaret White.

Conservation relies on material evidence and continuous assessment of the materials and techniques being used for monitoring or treating heritage. Conservators benefit from sharing experiences, but conservation documentation records are not widely accessible. In this session the barriers for sharing documentation records will be discussed alongside the ethical responsibilities of conservation organisations towards the profession and the public. The role of professional bodies is considered alongside their long-overdue synergy.

Dr Athanasios Velios is a Reader in Documentation in Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon and Ligatus at the University of the Arts London. He is a keen supporter of opensource software and open distribution of knowledge. Dr Velios’ research focuses on documenting practice with a particular interest in conservation and archiving. He currently leads an international consortium on conservation documentation: Linked Conservation Data. Linked Data technologies allow the publication of records/data in such a way that they can be linked to other resources and enable re-use and discovery (Ligatus, UAL 2021).

Margaret White is a registrar, currently working as the Documentation Officer for the Australian Museum’s Collection Enhancement Project. Margaret completed a Masters in Archaeology and Museum Studies at the University of Cambridge, before going on to work with the British Museum and Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences on major collection relocation projects.
