City of Plenty

Penrith Regional Gallery & the Lewers Bequest City of Plenty

Come and join the City of Plenty Fundraising dinner on Monday 23 March and be a part of the action. Help raise $10,000 in just one night. This will generate enough money to service over 20,000 meals for the disadvantaged community.

This event is a first for the Penrith Regional Gallery and Lewers Bequest, and a night that visitors will not forget. Taste buds will be tickled by delicious food, which includes a three course meal provided by two fantastic chef’s Travis Harvey food advisor on Peter Kuruvits’a Mexican Fiesta and Steve Grant from Cafe at Lewers. Plus Windowrie wines have provided their award winning label The Mill for visitors to enjoy a quality drop. The night is a win win with guests able to enjoy the Gallery space after hours, a fine culinary experience and contribute to making a difference.

City of Plenty is not a static display but an evolving art installation with a social conscience.

Special guest speaker Ronni Kahn Founder and CEO of OzHarvest will provide some food for thought. Ronni has managed to change food legislation to be able to collect quality excess food from commercial outlets and deliver it, direct and free of charge to assist vulnerable men, women and children.

The event is part of the City of Plenty exhibition at Penrith Gallery. The exhibition is not a static display but an evolving art installation with a social conscience.

Artist Sarah Goffman is constructing a city made from donated non-perishable food and household consumables in the Main Gallery. Until 20 March, she will be on site as part of a three week residency, constructing a mass installation of groceries (non-consumables). The size and speed, at which it develops as a city, will provide a social commentary upon consumption, excess, waste, and also the generosity of our community and nation.

At the conclusion of the project, the city will be dismantled and the goods donated to those in need through our project partners, Ozharvest and Penrith Community Kitchen.

Please be a part of the action – donate food, see the art installation and buy a ticket to our Fundraising Dinner. You’re guaranteed to walk away feeling inspired and part of an active and caring community.
