Finding a home at 13
Here at M&G NSW we’ve been talking about these little video stories from the inspired people at Evans Head Museum. They teamed up with ABC Open to tell some of the stories from their area.
This little gem is the moving story of Dorothy Silvertsen who left home at the age of 13 left home to work in a boarding house. At 15 she sold her pushbike to take a train to Brisbane and ended up working in the airfield mess hall at Evans Head as kitchen hand. It was there she found a much needed family.
Based on a single photo these stories are social documentary, biography and human interest stories all at once. Definitely a recipe for success.
Don’t just watch it here, get along and meet the some of the local stories for yourself at the Evans Head Museum.
