Manager Security and Safety
Full-time, Ongoing, EL1 position
$115,443 – $125,832 p.a. plus 15.4% superannuation

About the Role
The Manager Security and Safety is responsible for safeguarding the Museum’s assets, our buildings, wharves and site. This role involves supervising security contractors and personnel, implementing security policies, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
The key responsibilities of this role will include being the primary point of escalation for security operational issues and leading the team in post incident reviews. You will coordinate investigations to identify solutions, cause and remediation and engage the team to ensure service levels are met.
Key Accountabilities
Under broad direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:
– Security of and for people, (staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors), the collection, and museum buildings, facilities and equipment, preventing and minimising incidents, exposures and injuries
– Provide instruction on physical security standards and Commonwealth requirements.
– Lead security contractors and personnel with professionalism and integrity in the delivery of security services requirements under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
– Documenting, investigating, and analysing incidents, injuries, illnesses, and near misses. Developing and implementing security policies, protocols, and procedures, identify risks or opportunities for improvement.
– Controlling budgets for security operations and monitoring expenses.
– Planning and coordinating security operations for specific events.
– Managing emergency response situations and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
– Effectively and efficiently, manage key physical security contracts such as access control, guarding, locks and other security peripherals.
– Manage the coordination of the Museum’s Crisis Management Team (CMT) including updating and editing the Museum’s Crisis Management Team Plan.
– Lead and/or conduct security investigations that may include provision of evidence for criminal or administrative activities. Documentation and execution of effective response, control and evacuation in the event of an emergency. Be the first point of contact for Police and other agency enquiries.
Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage essential services and systems, to deliver efficient and effective safety and security services for a major public institution.
2. Demonstrated ability in effective management including budgeting and planning.
3. Exceptional knowledge of information security governance and compliance and leadership skills, managing a team who are focused on outcomes. Experience in design, test, development and operations support in security systems and demonstrated experience in security solution architecture.
4. Superior understanding and knowledge of the security risks that are faced by, and relevant, to a national collecting institution and its staff, visitors, collection and facilities. In depth knowledge of security processes and procedures in conjunction with legislative policies and requirements.
5. Superior communication skills including the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and deliver in times of crisis.
Qualifications and/or relevant experience required
Desirable:
– Tertiary or equivalent qualifications, or experience, in the provision of security and protective services, including emergency response.
– Cert 4 in security risk management.
