Bega Valley Genealogy Society Inc
The Bega Valley Genealogy Society Inc is a not-for-profit organisation – founded in 1987 and incorporated in 1988 – and is a volunteer organisation. The Society has amassed a large collection of archives – archives of significant assessment that are of local, state and/or national significance. We pride ourselves of having a large library of local family history books along with an historic local photographic collection and old documents; old maps and newspapers and old rate books to name just a few and the resources to trace family history – indigenous and pioneering family’s ancestry – locally and beyond. Family history is social history from which stories can be gleaned about the rich history of the Far South Coast of NSW. The Society is a trusted repository and research centre as it continues to collect, preserve, archive, and maintain its collection.
The Society occupies the Old Pambula Courthouse & Police Station c1862 that houses a permanent collection of photos and information about Policing in Pambula in the days of long ago along with some small objects. We have regular temporary exhibitions, and it is open to visitors during the Society’s opening hours; outside those hours is at request.
