The Australian Television Archive is an independent specialist service operating across two main areas: audiovisual digitisation and recovery, and archive footage research and supply.
The digitisation service specialises in obsolete, difficult and ageing television and audiovisual formats.
The Archive also provides specialist footage research and supply services, drawing on extensive Australian television and film holdings and industry knowledge to locate and provide archival material for productions, broadcasters, museums, researchers and other organisations.
Services are provided nationally from Melbourne, with particular emphasis on difficult, rare and irreplaceable audiovisual material.
Projects
2025–2026 (ongoing) — Preservation and digitisation of the extensive TNT-9 Tasmania television archive, encompassing decades of Tasmanian television heritage across original 16mm film and videotape.
2025–2026 (ongoing) — Large-scale preservation and digitisation of the GTS/BKN regional television archive, safeguarding decades of South Australian and Broken Hill television news, programming and broadcast history.
2025 — Specialist recovery and restoration of previously unseen behind-the-scenes material from Crocodile Dundee, preserved on ageing 1-inch broadcast videotape.
2025 — Recovery and digitisation of rare original 1-inch broadcast masters from Keith Floyd’s Australian television series Floyd on Oz.
2025 — Recovery and preservation of rare surviving colour material from the landmark Australian television series Number 96.
