The National Trust NSW is the State’s largest community-based NFP conservation organisation, managing significant museums, historic properties and collections of objects and artefacts. Our vision is to bring the heritage of NSW to life now and into the future through advocating for the conservation and protection of our built, cultural and natural heritage.
The David Sheedy Future Conservation Fund honours David’s work in advancing heritage learning and research through our archives for future generations. The Fund will support one project each year aligned with the National Trust’s conservation values and vision, over a 5-year period.
This year’s scholarship funds a 7-month part-time role for penultimate year students or recent graduates from tertiary education, enabling them to apply their skills National Trust resources to further their understanding of heritage conservation.
Our goal is for this scholarship to support emerging professionals and ensure the knowledge held by the National Trust of Australia (NSW) is harnessed for future generations of heritage conservationists.
About the Archives Scholarship
You will be required to complete a project that advances heritage conservation in NSW, delivering a tangible outcome to be presented at a National Trust event.
The scholar will be required to:
- Complete an archives project as designed by the National Trust Archives and Library Manager
- Travel to National Trust NSW properties, as required
- Present their project to an applicable National Trust (NSW) Committee. The David Sheedy Foundation are invited to attend the presentation and meet with the scholar
- Reflect on their experience in an electronic diary.
About you
We’re seeking a candidate with strong archival management and research skills to help record, conserve and improve access to our unique archives collections.
If you’d like to be part of a project that values cultural heritage and archival management, we’d like to hear from you. You should be able to demonstrate:
- strong research and writing skills
- familiarity with archival databases, and digital record keeping platforms
- Excellent organisation and time management skills and strong attention to detail
- Initiative with the ability to work independently or within a team
- Strong communication skills with a friendly, approachable manner.
As you will be working closely with our wonderful volunteers, an ability to train or share your knowledge with them is also essential.
Technically you need:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office365; experience with database management or digital record keeping and demonstrated aptitude for learning new software programs.
- Tertiary qualification (in progress or completed) in a discipline related to, archives, library or information services, collections management, or a related discipline.
- Excellent time management skills and an ability to constantly re-prioritise tasks to ensure completion within required timeframes
- An understanding of and commitment to the National Trust’s aims, objectives and workplace values.
If you’re passionate about archives and heritage protection, this role offers hands-on experience in archives management within a heritage environment.
