Orange RSL Museum
The Orange RSL Museum commemorates servicemen from the region and the contribution they made to Australia.
It pays special attention to the life of Sir Neville Reginald Howse, the first Australian soldier to be awarded the VC.
Howse, originally from England was a trained doctor and settled in Orange in 1899. When serving at the Boer war in 1900, Howse braved dangerous cross fire to rescue a fellow soldier and carry him to safety.
Howse had a long career, fighting in New Guinea and Gallipolli and, in 1922 after serving as Major of Orange, won the seat of Calare Federal Parliament.
The museum has varied military collection which is of interest to a wide audience.
