Batemans Bay Heritage Museum

Batemans Bay Heritage Museum is owned and operated by dedicated volunteer members of the Clyde River and Batemans Bay Historical Society Inc. Sited on the edge of the CBD, next to the town’s Water Gardens, this heritage listed former Courthouse, Police Station and Residence is a well maintained visitor-friendly attraction, offering a broad mix of permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions. Outbuildings contain specialist displays including timber-town history, and south coast NSW Geology.

Local Elder Les Simon provides a Welcome to Country in Dhurga language, just one of many audio-visuals and hands-on opportunities to explore local history. Each room tells a different but related story of the Bay’s development including aboriginal heritage, medicine, education, crime and punishment, military history, domestic arrangements and 1940s-1960s entertainment with dress-up area.

There is a dedicated kids’ space and reading room, archival resources, visitor computer kiosk, and a fund-raising quality 2nd hand bookshop.

Exhibits and toilet facilities are disability friendly.

The Batemans Bay Heritage Museum is approximately three and a half hours from Sydney by road, or two and a half from Canberra.
