Tumut & District Historical Society Museum

The Tumut Museum is managed by the members of the Tumut & District Historical Society which was formed in 1962. The Museum collection began in 1975 and was opened on its present site in 1979.

The  focus of the Museum is on our collection of Miles Franklin memorabilia, Historical Photographic Collection and items of agricultural machinery relating to the Tumut district. We also collect other items of significance to our community.

In the past few years, with grants from the Tumut Community Foundation, we have followed  a refurbishment program to update each room in the Museum to improve access to the collection and display areas.

We are currently working on a “Doctors, Nurses & Midwives” Exhibition and have begun gathering material to publish a book on “Tumut- the Early Years”.
