Gilgandra Rural Museum
Being open every day of the week gives you ample opportunity to see our extensive and exciting range of agricultural plant and machinery, including the famous Howard Rotary Hoe, as well as many historic household and general items from bygone days.
Historic buildings including the Tooraweenah Police Gaol and the Uargon Subsidised School which are found within our grounds.
We’re located on the Dubbo Road (Newell Highway) near the Heritage Centre just before the railway crossing and the large windmill at the front of the building easily identifies it. This large Southern Cross windmill is one of the biggest in NSW with a mill head of 7.3m [24′].
While you are here, inspect are the Ridley Stripper, Ruston Proctor 1912 Steam Traction Engine, Pfitzner’s 1920 Titan Tractor, Ajax Gas Producer, McKay Harvester and McCormick Deering Tractor and other unique examples of tractors and agricultural equipment used by the pioneers in the Gilgandra District.
In the display room complex, adjacent to the main building you will find a range of collections items including photographs of the local area, musical instruments, and sewing machines from past times.
