PEACOCK GALLERY AND AUBURN ARTS STUDIO: LACEBOOK

The Lacebook program of events, artists workshops and resultant exhibition explored the intersection between traditional craft practices and modern technology.

The project sought to identify and highlight the diverse craft practices in Auburn and the traditional ideas which inspired the works. Lacebook showcased often-overlooked traditional and cultural artforms and  prompted intergenerational discussion around the themes of the exhibition and the artists’ responses.

The exhibition included embroidery, woodwork and knitting. Using these techniques artists responded to compemporary issues including concerns around privacy, labour conditions, cyber-bullying as well as the allure of instant communication, colourful screens and emoticons.

The exhibition was developed by Nicole Barakat, as part of a curatorial residency with Peacock Gallery and Auburn Arts Studio.
