Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden and near the Central Business District, the Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land – The Gadigal People.
The Art Gallery attracts around 2.6 million visitors annually and runs Australia’s largest education program with over 90,000 student and teacher visits per year. With our expanded campus the Art Gallery has a new state-of-the-art building located next to our existing and much-loved building. Providing us with close to double the exhibition space, the expanded Art Gallery enables us to share more art with more people and provide more family, learning and educational programming for all our audiences.

About the role
Undertakes registration activities for a diverse range of exhibition and collection related projects including major temporary exhibitions, tours, and collection display. The role ensures that all work is completed to the highest standards of risk management and museum best practice, while also achieving compliance with relevant governing legislation, contracts policies, museum conventions and standards, and working towards sustainability and efficiency.

What technical / soft skills you require
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field or able to demonstrate equivalent thinking and ability gained through experience
2. Extensive experience negotiating and managing international and domestic exhibition loans
3. Demonstrated experience managing registration requirements for both exhibition loans and long-term or rotating collection displays, including condition reporting and display environment standards
4. Proven experience of working to museum standards for loan documentation, transportation, packing, handling and display requirements
5. Understanding of relevant government legislation, indemnity schemes and commercial insurance and their application
6. Excellent project management skills including scheduling, deadline management, budget and risk management, with proven ability to work well under pressure
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and oral, in relation to liaising, influencing, consulting, collaborating and reporting with senior management, peers, reports, lenders, and other related external contacts
8. Demonstrated experience, competency and understanding of MS Office suite, collection management systems and financial processing software
9. Current NSW Driver’s Licence
10. Holds, or has ability to obtain an ASIC card
Targeted questions
1. Describe a time you managed a complex international or domestic exhibition loan where requirements changed or a risk came up late in the project. For example, a lender’s new conditions, a courier or transport problem, or an indemnity or insurance issue. How did you negotiate with the lender and other stakeholders, and what was the outcome? (Maximum 300 words)
2. This role supports both major temporary exhibitions and long-term or rotating collection displays. Give an example of how you have managed registration requirements across more than one project at the same time. How did you set priorities, keep documentation and collection management system records accurate, and make sure display environment standards were met? (Maximum 300 words)
