GALLERY TECHNICIAN
POSITION TITLE: Gallery Technician
HOURS: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, with presence at evening events and art fairs as required
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Permanent full-time, subject to a six-month probationary review
SALARY: Commensurate with experience plus 12% superannuation

About the role
Sullivan+Strumpf is looking for an experienced, proactive and solutions-oriented Gallery Technician to oversee the exhibition installation & photography at the Sydney gallery. Reporting to the general manager, this role is responsible for coordination of exhibition install and de-install, packaging and preparing artworks for shipment, artwork documentation, and general upkeep of stockrooms.
The chosen candidate will be a proactive team player, have exceptional attention to detail and be highly organised. They can take initiative and perform multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining flexibility, patience, and a friendly attitude. The Gallery Technician will support the staff and artists to achieve their shared artistic, creative and business goals.
This is a full-time position, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with presence at some evening and art fairs as required.
Essential Requirements
- 2 – 4 years experience in a museum or gallery, or a related industry
- Knowledge of appropriate techniques/procedures for handling, transportation and storage of artworks
- Strong organisation and project management skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, including excellent written and spoken expression
- Experience working with software applications/databases to maintain and update collection information
- Can work independently
- Full driver’s license
Key Responsibilities
- Lead install/deinstall of exhibitions, including ability to manage lifting and carrying artworks and equipment
- Packing and preparing artwork for shipment, maintaining S+S procedures
- Artwork documentation and general exhibition photography
- Support exhibition and art fair preparations, including liaising with artists and directors about installation, crating and freight
- General upkeep of stockrooms, and knowledge artwork movements and locations
- General administrative support, as needed
