Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm, with presence at evening events and art fairs as required

About the Organisation
Sullivan+Strumpf is one of Asia-Pacific’s leading contemporary art galleries, representing important Australian and international artists. Founded in Sydney in 2005 by co-directors Ursula Sullivan and Joanna Strumpf, the gallery represents 46 established and emerging artists and artist estates from across the Asia-Pacific and East Asia. In 2022, Sullivan+Strumpf will expand nationally with the inception of a new Melbourne space. The gallery presents an ambitious program of diverse exhibitions, publications and talks, and an international art fair schedule spanning Australia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. About the role
Sullivan+Strumpf is seeking an experienced, solutions-oriented Gallery Associate for our Melbourne
gallery. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, with the ability to work in a fast-paced
environment.
Reporting to the Associate Director, this is an integral role within the 15 strong team based across Sydney, Singapore and Melbourne and will be responsible for customer service, servicing client relations, online engagement and promotion of Sullivan+Strumpf artists.
The chosen candidate will have gallery experience and an understanding of the art industry. They will have exceptional attention to detail and be highly organised. They can take initiative and perform multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining flexibility, patience, and a positive and courteous attitude. The Gallery Associate will support the Directors, staff, and artists to achieve their shared artistic, creative, and business goals.
Essential Requirements
• Minimum 2 years experience within a gallery environment
• Committed to communicating, supporting, and achieving results for our artists.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to communicate with a variety
of people.
• Experience with social media platforms
• High level of administration and computer skills – including Microsoft and Adobe essential
• Full Driver’s license
Applicants with experience creating and editing video and photographic content are preferable.
Key Responsibilities
• Working with the Associate Director, plan and prioritise sales activities and client engagement
• Seek out new client/artist opportunities from a broad range of sources
• Working with the Associate Director to develop and deliver, public programs linked to the
exhibition program and explicitly aim to engage new markets, audiences, and elevate the profile
of represented artists.
• Update and maintain the gallery website on a daily basis
• Generate engaging digital collateral and support the Communications Coordinator across social
media platforms.
• Schedule and deliver print advertisements and listings in coordination with the Communications
Coordinator, and in line with sales and exhibition strategies
• Assist the gallery team with the practical delivery of artistic projects and outcomes as required.
• Contribute to the collegial quality of the S+S workplace and foster a positive workplace culture.
