Tamworth Regional Astronomy & Science Centre

The Tamworth Regional Astronomy & Science Centre (TRASC) is a purpose-built astronomy and science complex, designed to be accessible to all visitors. Situated on the edge of Tamworth, adjacent to the Botanic Gardens, the Centre serves as a hub for scientific exploration and discovery.

The Centre comprises three observatories, equipped with roll-off roofs to facilitate optimal stargazing experiences. These observatories are home to a variety of astronomy optical telescopes, including the centre’s award-winning Jos Roberts 36-inch Newtonian believed to be the largest portable privately owned in Australia. Additionally, the historic Hewitt Camera, a very large, professional telescope operates from its own observatory. The Centre also houses displays of astrophotography, meteorite specimens, fluorescent minerals, and an open planetarium theatre.

The renowned Chris Bowman mineral and megafauna collections are also housed within the Centre, offering visitors a unique glimpse into geological and prehistoric wonders.
