Miss Porter’s House collection listed on the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register
The Management Committee of Miss Porter’s House, National Trust of Australia (NSW), held a celebration at Miss Porter’s House, on Friday, 9 June 2023.
This event acknowledges the work of many people, over many years, on many projects to reach national recognition on the Inscription of Miss Porter’s House Documentary Heritage Collection 1910–1997 on the UNESCO Australian Memory of the World Register.
M&G NSW, Sector Development Manager, Emily Cullen attended the formal ceremony announcing the new inscriptions to the Australian Register.
Built in 1909 by Herbert Porter, the terrace house was home to the Porter family until 1997. It was left to the National Trust by Miss Hazel Porter, with its contents intact, providing today’s visitors with a vivid experience of early to mid-twentieth century inner-city life in Newcastle. Miss Porter’s House is filled with 1909-1940 furnishings and personal items which tell the story of the family over more than a century.
