With over twenty years of experience working in the visual arts spanning both the commercial and non-profit sectors, Sarah has a deep knowledge of art and the art market with an extensive network of relationships.

Projects

2018-2023: Director, Galleries at Sydney Contemporary – Australasia’s premier art fair. Responsible for sales and the client relationship management for over 95 leading galleries from Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Instrumental in further strengthening the reputation and impact of Sydney Contemporary nationally and internationally, to the benefit of commercial galleries and their artists, facilitating over AU$85million worth in art sales across three physical and two digital editions of the Fair. Record sales of AU$23million achieved in the 2022 edition of the Fair.

2023: Curator of Installation Contemporary at Sydney Contemporary. Delivery of 13 large-scale, ambitious art projects by Indigenous, Australian and international artists located throughout the iconic architecture of Carriageworks, Sydney. Artists included: Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, Alex Seton, Brian Robinson, Jenna Lee, Jon Rafman, Julie Rrap, Lindy Lee, Louise Zhang, Nabilah Nordin, Mikala Dwyer, Roy Wiggan, Sarah Smuts-Kennedy and Tony Garifalakis.

2015-2018: Benefaction Manager at Biennale of Sydney. Exceeded record philanthropy target for 21st Biennale of Sydney (2018). Increased entry-level Benefactor support; international philanthropic and cultural foundation support and Major Gifts fundraising for artists’ projects and public programs. Designed and delivered the 20th and 21st Biennale Opening Week and VIP programs on budget, hosting over 5,000 guests at 20 events over a 10-day period. VIP patron tours to Istanbul (5 days, 2015) and Japan (10 days, 2017). Creative direction, editing and production of digital videos, “Stories of our Supporters” featuring key philanthropists.

2009-2010: Board Director of Art Month Sydney, Australian Art Events Foundation

2007-present: Art, architecture and design writer. Member of the International Art Critics Association of Australia (AICA). Indo-Pacific Correspondent for Indesign and a regular contributor to Habitus Living and Artist Profile. Contributed essays and profiles for museum publications including Heide Museum of Modern Art’s Cubism and Australian Art and Artspace’s Column. Interviewed leading artists including the late Bill Viola, Haegue Yang and Lee Ufan. Published writing in ArtReview, Art Monthly Australasia, Ocula, The Art World, Eyeline, Vault – Art & Culture, Artlink and The Art Market Report. Under the imprint of White Buffalo, edited and published books on artists including Brian Blanchflower, David Serisier and the Collection of James and Jacqui Erskine.
