I have been working in the arts sector in some capacity for the past 28 years. I have been a teacher and lecturer at TAFE, an Arts Educator, a curator and Director in the public gallery system and worked at two commercial galleries. I have lectured and written education kits on Australian art and artists. I have developed, and curated exhibitions, written catalogue essays, and worked closely with a large number of Australian artists. I was as the Director of Tamworth Regional Gallery for almost 7 years. Tamworth Regional Gallery has the only comprehensive collection of Contemporary Australian Textiles since 1970’s and is known nationally and internationally for its contribution to the continued development of this genre in Australia through its exhibition program and collecting policy. I am currently the co owner/ director of WESWAL Gallery Tamworth, a small commercial gallery in regional NSW.
Projects
In 2014 I was contracted to be the Arts Consultant for the Hunter New England Health Tamworth Hospital upgrade. I worked closely with staff and the change management team, and the architects to deliver a vibrant arts and culture program. This included writing the strategic and arts management plans, policies and procedures, consultation with staff on the individual needs of specific areas for art related works and activities, consulting with local community groups and with the Local Council. I brokered an agreement with the Local Council and Regional Gallery to allow works from the permanent collection to be on semi permanent display throughout the hospital, with works being updated and rotated on a bi-annual basis.
