HOURS: Tuesday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, with presence at evening events and art fairs as required
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Permanent Full-time, subject to a six-month probationary review
SALARY: Commensurate with experience plus 12% superannuation

Sullivan+Strumpf is a leading contemporary commercial gallery representing a diverse range of emerging and established artists from Asia, Australia and the Pacific region. The gallery was founded, by co-directors Ursula Sullivan and Joanna Strumpf in 2005.

About the role
The Artist Liaison – Senior is a key member of the Artist Relations team at Sullivan+Strumpf, working closely with a gallery director to support a portfolio of represented artists. Acting as the primary point of contact, you will lead the planning and delivery of exhibitions, public art commissions, publications and special projects, ensuring creative, logistical and production outcomes are delivered on time and to the highest standard.
This role requires exceptional project management, communication and relationship-building skills.
Working across all gallery departments and with external stakeholders, you will coordinate complex projects from concept to completion, manage production schedules, prepare project documentation and support artists in the development of their careers through strategic opportunities, grant applications and institutional opportunities.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, adaptable and proactive, with significant experience delivering complex arts projects in a commercial gallery, museum or cultural organisation. Strong writing skills, knowledge of collection management systems and an understanding of the Australian contemporary arts sector are essential.
This is a full-time position, Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00am–5:00pm, with attendance at exhibition openings and occasional evening events required.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience in a commercial gallery, museum or related arts organisation
- Experience working with artists to manage exhibitions, large-scale projects and publications
- Excellent project management and organisational skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal abilities
- Sound knowledge of the Australian contemporary arts sector
- Experience using collection management systems
- Grant writing and design skills are highly desirable
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison for a number of represented artists and provide day-to-day support
- Lead the planning and delivery of exhibitions, publications and special projects
- Work with artists to manage project schedules and timelines
- Prepare and coordinate artist biographies, exhibition texts, proposals, grant applications and marketing collateral
- Maintain accurate artist records and project documentation
- Support the gallery director with artist development, institutional projects and strategic initiatives
- Build and maintain strong relationships across the arts sector, identifying opportunities for
represented artists
