Exhibitions Coordinator
OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
This position reports to the Head of Exhibitions and is responsible for the project management of Tier 2, 3 and 4
exhibitions, permanent collection displays and other exhibition related projects as required.
The position will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary project teams and will liaise closely with internal
and external stakeholders including registration, conservation and contractors to deliver projects.
Work Health and Safety will be a focus for this position with the development and review of Risk Assessments,
Job Safety Analyses or Safe Work Method Statements as well as installation instructions.
This position will assist or direct the installation team onsite to safely and securely install works of art.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Our ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of and passion for the visual arts.
You will have demonstrated experience in project management of collection displays or exhibitions in a gallery
or museum. Your organisational skills enable you to deliver projects on time and in budget in a changing
environment. You are a solution-based person who is flexible and works collaboratively and creatively with
stakeholders to meet deadlines.
Your demonstrated experience in the coordination of a multi-disciplinary and multi-skilled team, in a gallery or
museum, together with your effective and empathetic communication skills will enable you to work closely with
colleagues both internal and external, artists and other stakeholders to deliver projects to high standard.
Your high-level understanding of museum standards and installation methods provides you with the knowledge to display works of art safely while having regard for conservation and registration requirements.
You will be experienced in the development of risk assessments, safe work method statements and job safety
analyses associated with installation tasks and refurbishment of exhibition spaces. Your knowledge of
installation methods relating to works of art provide you with the ability to actively assist with installation of
works of art.
DUTY STATEMENT
In accordance with the APS 5 work level standards, you will:
Project manage collection exhibitions and displays using the Gallery’s project management
methodology to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.
Lead multidisciplinary teams, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to develop deadlines and
monitor and report on progress against milestones.
Manage contractors in accordance with the gallery’s procurement and contractor management policy
and systems including work permits inductions and relevant WHS documentation ensuring contract compliance.
Maintain the daily schedule of works for the department. Monitor and update the schedule in response to changing events in consultation with the exhibition management team
Develop, implement and review risk assessments, job safety analysis and standard work procedures in
consultation with internal and external stakeholders.
Assist and/or direct installation teams onsite or offsite at venues to safely and securely install works of art
ELIGIBILITY:
Citizenship – to be eligible for employment with the Gallery, you must be an Australian citizen.
Police Check – to be eligible for this role you must complete a police check.
