Dunlea Centre Chapel Museum & Memorial Garden

The Dunlea Centre Chapel Museum & Memorial Garden houses historical artefacts related to Boys’ Town and the history of community life in Engadine and suburban New South Wales.

The current exhibition offers a retrospective of Boys’ Town’s nearly ninety-year history, and features sporting memorabilia, brass band instruments, and church paraphernalia from the Depression era and World War II. Helpful storyboards link the artefacts and their histories, guiding visitors through The Chapel’s contemplative, light-filled exhibition space. Outside the museum are three notable interwar-style buildings: the Bakery, the Butchery, and the War Memorial Hospital. Although not located within the museum, these buildings are connected to the history showcased within the exhibition, and are only three blocks from Engadine’s central shopping district, cafes, and restaurants.

Take a stroll around the leafy campus and explore the historic buildings.

Peering into Boys’ Town’s overflowing trophy cases, you can almost sense the excitement the boys must have felt before their games.

Ask the Heritage Steward about how fake news helped put Boys’ Town on the map.

At the foundation of Boys’ Town, it was the Big Band Era.
