White Rabbit Gallery was opened in 2009 to showcase what has become one of the world’s most significant collections of Chinese contemporary art.
Dedicated to works made in the 21st century, the White Rabbit Collection is owned by Judith Neilson, who was inspired to establish it after her first trips to Beijing in the late 1990s. She was thrilled by the creative energy and technical quality of the works she saw and wanted to share them with people outside China.
About the Role
We are looking for a proactive, approachable, and people-focused team lead to join our dynamic team in Chippendale, Sydney. As the Operations & Team Supervisor, you will supervise the gallery staff and assist the curator in ensuring efficient operation of the gallery as whole.
The ideal candidate must have excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks at once, and a proven track record of successfully managing a team in a similar environment. You should be quick-to-learn, have a deep understanding of gallery operations, and the ability to identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate solutions if required.
This is a full-time role based on-site during gallery opening hours, being Wednesday – Sunday, 9am – 5pm.
General overview of Duties
General Team Supervisor Duties
• Manage, liaise, and lead a team of approximately 30 casual staff members
• Create monthly rosters through staff availability management and gathering
• Assess, amend, and approve weekly timesheets for staff payroll
• Undertake staff recruitment and general HR requirements
• Ensure necessary staff training is up to date, including undertaking gallery-specific training and organising external training for staff members
• Assist the curator in organising staff coverage throughout the gallery
• Assist staff in the daily operations of the gallery as required
• Handle visitor and staff escalations and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner
General Gallery Operations Duties
• Be the point of contact for external suppliers, and other divisions of the broader organisation, including accounts, facilities etc.
• Maintain general gallery supplies and maintenance issues with the facilities team
• Undertake building and First Aid OH&S inspections
• General gallery finance tasks, including invoicing, accounts payments, cash register management, and general gallery orders and supply checks
• Assess and manage food safety and hygiene awareness
