Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre

Located in the heart of Moruya, New South Wales, the Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre, affectionately known as The Bas, is Eurobodalla’s premier purpose-built exhibition space. Since its inception the Bas has developed a reputation for its collaborative artist-first approach and has been a beacon for creative excellence, fostering a vibrant cultural scene in the region. The Bas is owned and managed by Eurobodalla Shire Council.

The Bas is named in honour of Mr. Basil Sellers AM, businessman and philanthropist renowned for his significant contributions to the arts, sports, and community development. His passion for art and his commitment to supporting artists have been instrumental in establishing this centre as a cultural landmark.

The Bas is renowned for its dynamic and diverse exhibition program, which showcases a wide array of contemporary art forms. From painting and sculpture to digital media and installations, the centre provides a platform for both emerging and established artists to present their work to the public. The exhibitions are thoughtfully curated to engage, inspire, and challenge audiences, making art accessible to all.

One of the highlights of The Bas is the prestigious Basil Sellers Art Prize, an acquisitive biennial award that celebrates artistic innovation and excellence. With a prize pool exceeding $50,000, this competition attracts talented artists from across Australia, offering them significant recognition and support.

In addition to its exhibitions, The Bas is committed to community engagement and education. The centre hosts a variety of workshops, artist talks, and educational programs designed to nurture creativity and foster a deeper appreciation for the arts. The Bas Kids program is particularly popular, encouraging young artists to explore their creativity and participate in the annual Little Sellers Art Prize.

The Bas is also a hub for cultural events, regularly hosting performances, film screenings, and community gatherings. These events provide opportunities for residents and visitors alike to connect with the arts in meaningful ways.

The centre is supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who are passionate about promoting the arts in Eurobodalla. Their efforts are complemented by the generous contributions of donors, sponsors, and patrons, whose support is vital to the centre’s ongoing success.

Visitors to The Bas can enjoy the exhibitions from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. The centre is conveniently located at the corner of Vulcan and Campbell Streets, with easy access through the Moruya Library. The Bas acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Yuin people, and pays respect to Elders past, present, and emerging.
