Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Museum

Situated on level 8 of the heritage listed King George the V Memorial Hospital for Mothers and Babies, the RPA Museum collects, records and preserves the history of one Australia’s largest, busiest and best hospitals – the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Founded after the 1868 attempted assassination of Prince Alfred, on his first official royal visit to Australia, the hospital opened in 1882 as a celebration of his recovery.

The Museum contains eight display rooms, two of which are located in heritage listed operating theatres. Rooms feature displays related to the history of RPA including nursing, medicine and social history. The Archives actively collects material related to the history of RPA and its staff, and holds a small collection of material related to other local medical institutions spanning 1868 to present day.
