The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) is Australia’s only public museum dedicated to contemporary art and the work of living artists.

Located on Sydney Harbour at Tallawoladah, a home to stories, art and culture for over 65,000 years, the MCA contributes to the continuity of culture on our site.
We connect the widest possible public to contemporary art through our Collection, exhibitions, events, creative learning and access programs.
Our evolving Collection of over 4,700 artworks is the only public collection in Australia dedicated to the work of living artists, with over a third represented by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.
As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, the MCA raises over 85% of its revenue each year through donations and commercial activities to deliver its artistic and engagement programs.
Overview of the position
The MCA is seeking a creative and savvy digital specialist to lead a dynamic and forward-thinking program of digital engagement for the Museum.
The Senior Manager, Digital Engagement plays a leadership role in the development of the MCA’s digital strategy as part of the Museum’s mission to provide access and deepen appreciation and understanding of the art of our time, ensuring that visitors and communities from diverse backgrounds and interests can engage meaningfully with contemporary art and ideas through innovative, easy-to use and enjoyable experiences. Current key platforms include the MCA website, MCA web app, and interpretive content created for and delivered via digital platforms both at the MCA and for global audiences online. Future platforms and initiatives will be shaped by the post-holder, in collaboration with the MCA Executive.
Reporting to the Director, Engagement and working alongside the Head of Communications and Marketing, the role bridges creative innovation and operational responsibilities, overseeing project-led working and day to day management of the MCA’s digital platforms. The role manages two content producers and works in close collaboration with the MCA’s digital agency and with teams across the MCA, including Curatorial and Collections, Creative Learning and Public Programs, ITC, and Development.
Team structures at the MCA are subject to change and growth aligned with strategic priorities.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be an experienced professional and creative and innovative thinker who thrives on collaboration and is entrepreneurial in their outlook.
They will be passionate in their commitment to digital museum engagement and to play a leading role in achieve the MCA’s ambitions to be a leader in the field and their desire to work as a genuine partner on this journey.
Building from a relatively modest digital footprint and budget, they will be excited to collaborate with the MCA executive and teams to identify and capitalise on opportunities for growth and impact.
Resilient and adaptable with the ability to lead and develop people, they will act as a digital champion across the organisation, helping to drive digital confidence across teams and to ensure the MCA can make the most of new tools and technologies as they emerge.
