Museums Galleries Australia National Conference 2017 – Call for Proposals

Museums Galleries Australia National Conference

The conference theme Museums & Galleries in their Cultural Landscapes will discuss cultural, social, digital, learning and operational landscapes through plenary and parallel sessions. This theme investigates the changing and challenging actions of museums and galleries in their multidimensional landscape. MGA2017 is seeking papers and proposals for sessions responding to this theme.

On submission, you will be asked to identify a particular landscape (sub-theme) which your proposal relates to. These landscapes are as follows:

  • Custodians of Cultural Landscapes: interpretation, preserving cultural objects, stories, knowledge and values; sustainable practices
  • Social Landscape: arts health and wellbeing, tourism, collaboration, activism, stimulate / encourage action for the environment, community and cultural issues
  • Digital Landscape: audience engagement, digitising, digital publishing, emerging technologies
  • Learning Landscape: engaging demographically diverse audiences; education and public programming
  • Operational Landscape: best practice, case studies, collection management, curating, strategic directions

In keeping with the multidimensional landscape of museums and galleries, potential presenters are encouraged to submit proposals for the diverse range of presentation types available:

  • Curated Session (full session): 1.5-hour in-depth group presentation
  • Individual Presentation: 30-minute presentation including 5 minutes of question time
  • Pecha Kucha: Short presentation (20 slides shown for 20 seconds each, 6 minute 40 seconds total) to be joined with other similarly themed contributions to form a fast paced, high energy concurrent session
  • Workshop: Pre-conference workshop style presentation to be held from 9.00am – 11.00am on Monday 15 May 2016, prior to the official opening of the conference
  • Regional, Remote & Community Museums & Galleries: 30-minute case study style presentation including 5 minutes of question time, to be presented during the RR&CMG Day to be held on the afternoon of Sunday 15 May 2017.

Museums & Galleries of NSW helps small-medium museums, galleries and Aboriginal cultural centres create exciting experiences for visitors and, through this, thriving local NSW communities. We don't run museums, galleries and cultural centres but we care about those who do. We develop their skills, connect them with others in the industry, provide funding, point visitors their way, and give them access to ground-breaking exhibitions.

Museums & Galleries of NSW is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
