Interview – Lisa Cahill, Director, Australian Design Centre

Another in our series of interviews with regional and public gallery directors. We recently dropped into the Australian Design Centre at their new premises on William Street, Darlinghurst to chat with their director Lisa Cahill.

Lisa Cahill joined the Australian Design Centre in 2015 as Associate Director and prior to that was CEO of the Australian Design Alliance. Lisa has held several senior government positions at the national and local level, including the Australian Broadcasting Authority, the Australia Council for the Arts and the City of Sydney.  She was also research consultant for the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies.

As a creative producer in the visual arts and theatre, Lisa has also worked on several projects for ADC including creative development and audience research projects. Lisa co-curated (with Steven Pozel) the Australian exhibition for the Triennale of Craft in Kanazawa Japan in 2013 and New Weave: Contemporary approaches to the traditions of weaving at Object Gallery in 2014. As an educator, Lisa has also facilitated an online program for visual artists and designers for NAVA and is a sessional lecturer at UNSW Art & Design.
