WHO YOU ARE
You are an ambitious arts professional who is keen to amplify contemporary art practices within the digital space. You will have demonstrated experience in a marketing and/or digital programming role and your abilities include website/social media management and production of digital arts programs. Your skills will extend into project management and encompass proficiency in budgeting/invoicing and creating project timelines.
WHO WE ARE
Verge Gallery at the University of Sydney (USyd) is a public art space dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art practice. Verge Gallery’s key focus is to present interdisciplinary exhibitions from leading and emerging arts practitioners while providing the USyd students, academics and visitors an arena for critical dialogue and response.
Through exhibitions and public programs, Verge acts as a vehicle for learning and skill sharing. In collaboration with the University’s faculties and the greater community, Verge programs give students experiential learning opportunities, mentorships and internships that support their educational development. Situated in the Chippendale-Redfern-Darlington creative hub, Verge expands beyond its university setting to provide exhibitions and events that are relevant to the wider community.
Established in 2009, Verge is an arm of the not-for-profit University of Sydney Union (USU), the university’s independent student organisation. The USU is student focused with a core mission to provide the best student life on campus. Verge fulfils a distinct role within the USU, as it combines enriched student experiences with learning outcomes through contemporary art practice.
WHAT WILL YOU DO
Assist with the development and delivery of a critical and ambitious artistic program at Verge Gallery.
Deliver a communications strategy and build audiences.
Routinely interact and collaborate with a range of key stakeholders including the USU staff, University staff and students, artistic collaborators and arts audiences.
YOU WILL HAVE
– A proven track record of developing audiences and creative content under a digital strategy and within marketing and/or digital programming role at a visual arts or cultural organisation
– Tertiary qualifications in the arts and/or experience working within the arts sector that has fostered sound knowledge of Australian and international art and visual art practitioners
– Sound experience in project management with a history of delivering successful events
– Excellent writing and research skills with developed reporting abilities
– Exceptional time management expertise working with competing deadlines and sustaining a keen eye for detail
– Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability as a competent cultural practitioner with high ethical standards and integrity
– Demonstrated experience working with Adobe Creative Suite programs: InDesign and Photoshop
HOURS OF WORK
35 hours per week. May include some weekends and nights as dictated by business requirements.
THE PAY
$69,000 + 11% Superannuation

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
– Tertiary qualifications in the arts and/or experience working within the arts sector
– Developed and demonstrated marketing and/or digital programming experience for a visual arts or cultural organisation with a proven record of developing audiences
– Proven skills in budgeting/invoicing, creating project timelines, and supervision of casual staff
– Demonstrated experience working with Adobe Creative Suite programs: InDesign and Photoshop
– Developed experience in project management, planning and administration
– Sound knowledge of Australian art and a broad knowledge of visual arts practitioners
– Excellent copywriting, writing and research skills and developed and accurate reporting abilities
– Exceptional time management skills working with competing deadlines and sustaining a keen eye to detail
– Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability as a competent cultural practitioner with high ethical standards and integrity
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
– Demonstrated ability of developing grant funding applications that have successful outcomes
– Experience of working within a university arts organisation
– Current Driver’s Licence and Working with Children Check
