Overview of the position
The MCA’s vision is to take a leadership role in shaping a creative and equitable Australia that values contemporary art and artists, and we are committed to making contemporary art accessible and inspiring for everyone.
The primary purpose of the Online Editor is to provide editorial overview to all textual material produced by the MCA for mca.com.au, as well as aligned properties such as MCA.ART and related MCA project-specific websites. The Online Editor will be responsible for ensuring the quality, relevance and accessibility of MCA online text content in line with the MCA Interpretation Strategy and MCA Online Content Guide; for keeping content on the mca.com.au site up to date; for maintaining an overview and creating appropriate links between content; and for identifying and pursuing opportunities to syndicate and cross-promote MCA content.
The Online Editor will report to the Head of Digital Media and work closely with the Head of Communications & Marketing, PR Specialist, Marketing Coordinator (Social Media & Digital) as well as content producers across the Museum.
Tasks and responsibilities of the position
• Work with the Head of Digital, Head of Communications & Marketing and MCA Website Editorial Committee to develop ongoing online content plan for mca.com.au including content briefs and schedules.
• Commission and liaise with content producers across the Museum to ensure text content produced and approved to brief and schedule.
• Support Head of Digital and Head of Communications & Marketing to ensure photographic, video and audio content produced and approved to brief and schedule.
• Proof and where necessary edit all text content produced for MCA Online in accordance with MCA Online Content Guide and MCA Interpretation Strategy.
• Where necessary and agreed with Head of Communications & Marketing and Head of Digital, draft text content for MCA Online.
• From time-to-time as required, edit and coordinate MCA publication content, such as Art Matters, selected printed and/or digital exhibition catalogues, and other curatorial texts including exhibition labels for galleries and the digital exhibition guide.
• Keep mca.com.au up to date, including producing and uploading approved pages, managing homepage schedule and content life cycle.
• Maintain an overview of all MCA online content, create dynamic connections across content locations.
• Manage URL creation and metadata vocabulary of tags.
• Champion, review and update MCA Online Content Guide.
Secondary Accountabilities of the Position
• Support content development on other MCA online platforms, including MCA.art and other MCA project specific websites.
• Identify and manage content opportunities to syndicate content, cross-promote with other entities and provide content to partner organisation websites.
• Assist MCA Marketing on MCA website site analytics; understanding target audiences; campaign development.
• Champion best-practice, top quality, accessible content outcomes for MCA online.
• Exhibit commitment to principles laid out in MCA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy in championing best-practice content outcomes for MCA online.
Key selection criteria
Essential criteria
Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have:
• at least 3 years’ editorial experience in an online environment related to Arts, Culture or Education
• excellent written communication skills including the proven ability to write and edit effective copy, successfully making specialist and sometimes complex subject matter accessible and engaging to a wide readership
• proven experience in commissioning text from a range of content producers
• commitment to principles of online accessibility
• demonstrated planning and project management skills
• proven track record in working independently and as a member of a team to deliver competing priorities
• demonstrated high level administrative skills and computer literacy
• strong interest in contemporary art
• a demonstrated commitment to the Museum’s objective of promoting the work of living artists and making contemporary art accessible to broad audiences through the imaginative and creative presentation of exhibitions and programs on contemporary visual culture.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements
Please note that it is currently a requirement as per the MCA’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, that all employees are fully vaccinated. You will need to provide evidence of your COVID-19 vaccination if you are successful. Please note that full vaccination as per the current NSW Government guidelines means two doses of COVID-19 vaccine for adults, and any future approved vaccination boosters. The MCA continues to review this Policy on a regular basis and may change the vaccination mandate requirements in the future.
