Museum Curator Mentor
The Alele Museum, Library and National Archives in partnership with the Australian Volunteers Program is looking for a Museum Curator Mentor to live and volunteer in the Republic of Marshall Islands. The assignment can vary from 3 to 12 months depending on your availability and interest.
Alele Museum is a non-profit corporation, based in Majuro, RMI, which includes the National Museum, the Public Library, and the National Archives. The overall mission of Alele is to promote lifelong learning through informational, technological, and cultural literacy needs of all age groups by providing various forms of information access via traditional means such as printed documents and books, and through videos, and digitized and online documents.
You will be working alongside the local team to ensure there is a suitable system of collection and maintenance of artifacts, which will successfully showcase the history and culture of the Marshallese people.
To be considered for this role, you’ll need qualifications in a relevant field such as History, Archaeology, Anthropology or Museum Studies, and/or experience in Museum work, and have a strong knowledge of art, history and cultural heritage.
This assignment will play a vital role in supporting the operations of the museum, ensuring that the collections are properly maintained and presented to the public in a meaningful and engaging way.
The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian government-funded initiative. Volunteers are covered with flights, insurance and we provide a living and accommodation allowance. All applicants must be Australian citizens or holders of Permanent Residency Visa of Australia, or New Zealand residents in Australia with a Special Category Visa (SCV).
