Overview of the position

The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia is seeking a switched on, savvy and passionate Marketing and Communications Coordinator (Development & Enterprises) to join the Museum.
This is a new role supporting the Marketing and Communications team in the implementation and delivery of initiatives and campaigns to achieve maximum revenue for the Museum through the MCA Store, venue hire, corporate partnerships, philanthropy and the Membership programs.
A leading brand in contemporary art and visual culture, the MCA is dedicated to showcasing the work of living artists. The Museum is rich with artwork, exhibitions, events and programs that provide inspiration for innovative marketing campaigns. The MCA is 75% self-funded so relies significantly on the work of the Development & Enterprises department.
The successful applicant will understand every aspect of social media, have a flair for copywriting and storytelling, an eye for images, strong knowledge of digital trends and acquisitions.
The Marketing Coordinator (Development & Enterprises) is accountable for coordinating and implementing the MCA’s Development & Enterprise marketing strategies across multiple platforms including social media, e-communications, SEM and SEO campaigns. The role is also responsible for event coordination, media bookings, briefing designers and list management.
The position reports to the Marketing Manager and works closely with the Head of Communications and Marketing, Marketing Assistant and Public Relations Manager to support the Museum’s digital marketing strategies and deliver social media campaigns.
In addition, the role has a dotted line report to the Director, Development & Enterprise and works closely with representatives from this team.

Tasks and responsibilities of the position

MCA Store
• Work with the Marketing Manager and MCA Store Manager to develop and implement the annual marketing plan for the MCA Store with a focus on digital and social media marketing.
• Manage approvals for all Development & Enterprises materials.
• Copywrite, build and send eDMs.
• Assist with photography shoots as required.
• MCA Store event coordination including product launches and shopping days.
• Assist with briefing campaign work through to the MCA Design Studio.
• Assist with growing subscription mailing lists.
MCA Venues
• Develop and implement the MCA Venues annual marketing plan, working with the Marketing Manager and MCA Venues staff.
• Assist with photography shoots as required.
• Assist with briefing campaign work through to the MCA Design Studio.
• Assist with growing subscription mailing lists.
• Oversee MCA Cafe & Graze MCA social media channels.
MCA Corporate Partnerships
• Support the Marketing Manager with the delivery of the corporate partner marketing plans including creative development workshops, activations and touring campaigns.
• Book advertising and media as required.
• Assist with briefing campaign work through the MCA Design Studio.
• Assist with briefing and development of partner collateral.
Philanthropy and Membership Programs
• Assist the Marketing Manager and Supporter Engagement Manager with developing and implementing the annual marketing plan.
• Proof and manage approvals of Members and Philanthropy eDMs.
• Assist with briefing campaign work through to the MCA Studio.
General
• Assist with Development & Enterprises pages for the MCA website.
• Manage approvals of Development & Enterprises materials through the team.
• Work with Marketing Manager to develop logo blocks that meet requirements for all Development & Enterprise areas.
• Coordinate regular reporting for Development & Enterprises on digital activity for key areas.
• Proof and manage approvals for all invitations to Development & Enterprises events.
Communications
• Manage media lists related to Development & Enterprises.
• Assist the MCA Public Relations Manager with PR campaigns and media list management.
• Development & Enterprises Public Relations coverage.
• Create and send out media e-invites for appropriate Development & Enterprises events.
• Support the PR Manager with Development & Enterprises media events.

Key selection criteria

Essential criteria
Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have:
• minimum 3 years’ previous experience in a similar role supporting a Marketing team
• excellent written and verbal communications skills including the ability to write and edit effective marketing copy
• passion for the digital industry coupled with the knowledge of current and trending leading practice
• demonstrated ability to develop and deliver creative digital marketing campaigns with emphasis on social media and proven ability to think outside the box
• demonstrated experience using social media platforms to increase visitation, deepen engagement and improve consumer brand recognition
• demonstrated experience sending effective e-communications that deliver brand, revenue, conversion, participation and channel usage goals
• strong relationship management and interpersonal skills including the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders including designers, external agencies, digital media specialists and web developers
• demonstrated high level administrative skills and good computer skills using word, excel
• a demonstrated commitment to the Museum’s objective of promoting the work of living artists and making contemporary art accessible to broad audiences through the imaginative and creative presentation of exhibitions and programs on contemporary visual culture.

Desirable criteria
It would be good if applicants have:
• experience and/or interest in contemporary visual arts and culture
• experience working in the cultural sector or not-for-profit environment
• proofreading and editing skills with good attention to detail
• relevant tertiary qualifications in Marketing, PR, Communications (or related discipline)
• interest in new marketing concepts, technologies and experiential marketing

Person Specification

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Development & Enterprises is a dynamic person who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about working with a leading brand in contemporary art and visual culture. They work well within a team and have strong interpersonal and communication skills and a natural ability to relate to people at all levels. They are a solutions-oriented individual who can think creatively in order to overcome challenges and achieve goals.

Terms and conditions of employment

This is a part-time (3-days per week), 12-month fixed term contract position reporting to the Marketing Manager with dotted-line reports to the Head of Communications & Marketing and the Director, Development and Enterprises. Some work out of normal hours (9am – 5.30pm) will be required to cover the MCA’s exhibitions and programs.

Salary package includes:
• annual leave: 4 weeks pro rata
• personal leave: 10 days pro rata
• superannuation: 9.50% super payments (in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992).

The appointment will be conditional on an initial three-month probationary period, which may also be extended (at the MCA’s discretion) for additional three months. Thereafter termination by either party will require written notice of 4 weeks.
