Librarian (Casual)
Hourly Salary Rate: $55.75 – $63.77 per hour (HEW 5)
UTS Library is seeking to recruit casual Librarians to work in the Education and Research Services department. Casual Librarians are responsible for delivering high quality, client focused services to UTS students, staff and the community. Our ideal candidate is someone who has excellent customer service skills, can work independently; and has experience working in, or is working towards their degree in, the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums).

About the Role
The Casual Librarian undertakes rostered work in the library, including on-site and online services, including enquires services that provide advice and training on searching literature, referencing and academic integrity, as well as research services to students, academics and professional staff. The role may also provide opportunities to contribute to projects supporting the provision of course materials, assessing library collections, and the development of training programs and study resources. The role has a strong customer service focus and ensures that the Library is welcoming, responsive and accessible.
This is an excellent learning opportunity for students or recent graduates in the GLAM sector, providing training and experience supporting students and academics in an academic library setting. It is also suitable for more experienced Librarians, or GLAM sector employees who may wish to explore different roles and opportunities or have more flexibility in their work.
In this role, you will;
- Work independently on service points (e.g. in person, via email) to provide in-depth advice and training to clients.
- Work under the supervision of other library staff to support department services, e.g. to develop training materials, perform environmental scans, review data.
- Contribute to and support projects across the Library.
- Provide excellent customer service and build relationships with internal and external University stakeholders to deliver comprehensive Library services.

About You
Successful candidates will possess the following attributes:
- Education and/or experience within Library, Archives, Gallery or Museum sectors. Consideration will be given to applicants who are undertaking but have not yet completed a relevant qualification.
- Experience working in a team environment, positively and proactively completing individually assigned tasks as well as contributing to team goals.
- Organisational and time management skills with the capacity to work efficiently under pressure, balancing competing priorities to ensure goals are met in line with expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adopt new and emerging technologies.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a current Working with Children check.
What we offer you
Hourly Salary Rate: $55.75 – $63.77 per hour (HEW 5) plus 11.5% superannuation.
Hours and duration of casual contract may vary depending on operational needs.
