The Learning Facilitator works as part of the Access and Learning Team delivering accessible and inclusive programs across the areas of public learning to both formal and informal sectors (students, children, families and adults), and visitor services as part of the front of house team. The role demands a deep interest in people, portraiture and Australian history, delivering service and programs to diverse audiences. Learning Facilitators contribute to the development and delivery of outreach and online programs in addition to programs based at the National Portrait Gallery. Preliminary research, planning, analysis and reporting, as well as point of sale are administrative functions of this position. Learning Facilitators work on a roster to cover the Gallery opening 364 days per year including some weekend work, public holidays, and occasional after hours work. The role reports to the Visitor Services Co-ordinator OR Manager, Learning Programs.
This successful applicant for this role will be trained and supported by the NPG in order to develop the full range of skills required for this position.

As part of the Access and Learning team:
• Delivering public learning programs and interpretation to a wide range of audiences including school groups;
• Providing a range of front-of-house services to National Portrait Gallery visitors including responding to visitor enquiries in person and by telephone and providing information related to the historical and cultural significance of the collection and exhibitions;
• Perform preliminary research into the design and development of programs; provide administrative support contributing to formal and informal learning programs including online, as directed. Working within an assigned budget, and maintaining an accurate running budget;
• Under substantial supervision contribute to the development of learning materials;
• Performing administrative functions related to the operating aspects of the Gallery’s front-of-house and project and program development including point-of-sale (Tessitura), recording of statistical data and file management for designated projects;
• Acting as First Aid Officer and Evacuation and Fire Warden to ensure the safety of the visiting public and staff of the gallery upon completion of mandatory training;
• Providing support to other Gallery functions including openings and other events, as required, and:
• Assistance with movement of a wide range of objects, as required, including but not limited to art materials, bollards, easels, chairs, stools, portable tables, and modules of display furniture when necessary.
