Gallery Associate
We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Gallery Associate to join our team.
The role of Gallery Associate is varied and requires a versatile and multi-skilled individual able to work independently and within a small team to deliver quality results across a range of tasks The primary responsibility of this job includes: administration, sales, registration, art handling, preparatory work, general administration, and providing assistance to the director. The successful candidate will be passionate about contemporary art and able to work well under pressure and to deadlines. They will possess strong problem solving and communication skills and have acute attention to detail.
This is a Part-Time (28 Hours), Fixed Term Contract (6 months) Role, with possibility to extend. Maternity Leave Cover.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
– Assisting gallery director.
– Management of the gallery’s database system.
– Liaising with clients, industry peers and artists.
– Liaising with freighters to arrange safe transportation of artworks.
– Safe handling, wrapping, and storing of all artworks.
– Assisting with documentation of artworks.
– Assisting with installation and deinstallation of exhibitions.
– Updating the gallery’s website with relevant content.
– Preparation and dissemination of exhibition collateral material.
– Updating artist CVs and other documentation as necessary.
– General gallery maintenance.
– Assisting with events held at the gallery inclusive of artist talks, exhibition openings, and external event space hires.
Selection Criteria:
– 2 years minimum experience working within the arts
– Strong Administrative skills including but not limited to answering and directing phone calls, managing email correspondence, responding to public inquiries and working directly with staff and clients.
– Passion and understanding of Australian and International contemporary art
– Maintains poise and professionalism and works well under pressure
– Possess an approachable and positive demeanour
– Knowledge of Artlogic Database preferred but not required
