Gallery Assistant
Aboriginal & Pacific Art is a commercial gallery located on Wellington St, Waterloo. Since its foundation in 1997, APA has presented monthly exhibitions of remote area community Aboriginal artists and artists groups across Australia. APA works strictly with Aboriginal owned and governed community based art centres.
Aboriginal & Pacific Art currently has a position available for a Gallery Assistant for four days (Tuesday – Friday), to begin immediately. This role includes:
Exhibition Preparation
§ Coordinating advertisements
§ Assistance in exhibition installation and openings
§ Coordinating exhibition invitations
§ Collating exhibition catalogues
§ Website and other online social media management
Day-to-day Gallery Administration
§ Generating invoices
§ Managing correspondence
§ Packing and organising freight of artworks
§ Day to day maintenance of the gallery
§ Filing, both digital and hard copy
Selection criteria:
• Tertiary qualifications in the arts or equivalent experience
• Well-developed writing skills
• Sound experience with Microsoft applications as well as familiar with Adobe Suite & Photoshop
• Practical, common sense attitude
• Evidence of gallery work experience
The role suits a highly motivated individual, with a strong sense of initiative, who would be able to work closely with the gallery’s director in an often fast-paced environment. It is a four day a week position, working from 10am – 5pm. Attendance at gallery openings is also required once per month. Experience working in a gallery environment is highly desirable, as is a firm working knowledge of the arts in Sydney and wider Australia.
