About the business and the role
Qantas Founders Museum is a world-class museum located in Longreach, Queensland and is home to the oldest civil aviation building in Australia. The museum is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to preserving the history and telling the story of Australia’s National Icon. We connect with the public through experiences, education, collections, and displays. Characters of the early Qantas days, their pioneering spirit and the impact the airline had for all Australians, is brought to life through life size exhibits, historical artifacts and interactive displays including the National Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar.
Our team is passionate and dedicated, providing a high level of customer service and experience. A key part of the role is enjoying communicating with the public and providing a fresh and vibrant tour through the museum’s Airpark Enclosure, home to the Boeing 747, Boeing 707, DC-3 and Super Constellation. In-house training is provided to all new employees to teach them the tour, how to use the Point of Sale (POS) and Reservations software and other tasks associated with the role. The museum is open daily.
Longreach is an outback town in Central Western Queensland with schools, pool, permanently manned police station, parks, other tourist attractions, river, sporting facilities, Caravan Parks and accommodation venues. Longreach is serviced daily by commercial flights, with daily QantasLink flights from Brisbane and twice weekly Rex flights from Townsville. Job tasks and responsibilities:
- Know QFOM’s main function and why it is important
- Follow the directions of the Customer Service Manager or the Shift Supervisor
- Ensure a rigorous approach to required excellent customer service standards and promote this approach across the Museum
- Promote and maintain a positive organisational image and good community relations
- Assist with functions
- Provide excellent customer service
- Cleaning duties
- Provide effective service delivery of the day-to-day end to end operations of the museum, restaurant, reception, retail shop and surrounding areas and facilities, to the degree anticipated due to your experience.
- Support the Museum’s business objectives.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace and abide by WHS policies and procedures
- Other tasks as directed by supervisor/s
- Meet training requirements
- Follow the Code of Conduct
- Maintain clear ethical cash handling techniques
Opportunities for professional growth/other job tasks and responsibilities
- Conduct guided tours of aircraft in the Museum Airpark
- Conduct Wing Walk tours
- Present and operate Luminescent Longreach sound and light show
Qualifications:

Experience:
Previous experience in customer service, tour guiding, or hospitality is not essential, enthusiasm, interest and willingness to learn are more important. On-the-job training will be given. An ideal applicant may have experience in the following:
• Front-line customer service or interpretation experience for a tourist attraction, educational or not-for-profit organization
• Electronic point-of-sale and cash handling experience
• Reservations
• Experience within the hospitality industry
Skills:
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Well-presented, friendly, and polite
• Interested in public speaking, interpretation, and education
• An understanding of what excellent customer service is and being able to deliver it
