Curatorial Officer
The Curatorial Officer supports the curatorial management of the UNSW Art Collection performing a pivotal role in the display of art on campus, collection development, exhibitions, and other initiatives of the Art Unit. The role is responsible for developing and implementing public engagement events and assisting with promotion of Art Unit activities, working closely with external and internal stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
The Art Unit is a cornerstone of UNSW’s Culture portfolio, responsible for the care, access, and interpretation of the UNSW Art Collection, and provides specialist advice to the organisation. The Art Collection is a key cultural asset of the University and comprises approximately 1300 works of Australian art from 1949 onwards, including works by First Nations artists. The collection is primarily displayed in UNSW buildings and in exhibitions on campus.
The Curatorial Officer reports to the Senior Curator of Art within the Culture theme of Wellbeing, Pro Vice-Chancellor Education & Student Experience Portfolio and has direct reports of casual assistants. The role is based at UNSW’s Kensington campus.

• A relevant degree from a higher education institution with related experience, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
• Proven knowledge of Australian art and demonstrated ability to undertake research and write for publication.
• Sound understanding of professional museum practices and experience working within a gallery environment.
• Experience in planning and delivery of visual art exhibitions and/or public programs and events.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team with excellent organisational skills.
• A current driver’s licence is desirable.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
