Curator and Project Manager
The Curator and Project Manager position is accountable for the successful development and implementation of multiple projects including public art commissions, corporate art collections, and public art strategies.
This role is highly valued, leading the implementation of projects through effective communication, client liaison and administration, artist liaison, strategic initiatives, project management, reporting, scheduling and budgeting.
This position requires a conscientious and energetic disposition, as well as a passion for contemporary art and working with artists. This position requires to be autonomous and result-driven, executing the role proactively and independently.
This position reports to the General Manager and Director. This is an ongoing full-time role within the leadership team.

SPECS OF ROLE
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Permanent full-time, subject to a three-month probationary review
HOURS: Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm, with additional hours required from time to time. Hybrid work model with working from home day.
SALARY: $70,000-80,000 per annum plus superannuation
KPI: Successful delivery of projects on time, within budget and to a high-level. Client and artist satisfaction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. CURATORIAL
1.a. Curatorial research and presentation
- Curatorial research for artist presentations and art strategies
- Source artists suitable for projects
- Building art strategies and artist presentations for clients
- Presentation of artist practices suitable to projects to clients
- Write and review project write ups and artist statements
1.b. Artist Liaison
- Liaise with artists and their representatives (eg. galleries, studio managers)
- Lead concept development work with artists for allocated projects
- Build and maintain artist relationships for allocated projects
- Research and source materials for artist’s projects as required
- Provide practical assistance to artists with their projects during installation
- Review and write artist contracts
2. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
2.a. Project Implementation
- Project scoping and project proposals
- Handle all client questions and book meetings for projects
- Be lead client liaison for allocated projects
- Review all documents and presentations going out to clients
- Review and manage team and contractors throughout allocated projects
- Problem-solve and management of complex and competing responsibilities
- Stakeholder management of client teams
2.b. Internal Project Management
- Update WIP document with project updates
- Internal team project management of timelines, milestones and deadlines
- Shadow and support other project managers projects
- Liaise with internal staff at all levels
- Review operating practices and implement improvements where necessary
- Supervise, coach and train lower level staff
3. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
- Source and identify new business leads
- Apply for grants and tenders
- Create fee proposals and quotes for our clients
- Connecting with old clients on Emilya Colliver’s LinkedIn
- Book in face to face meetings and presenting our capability document to clients
- Overall business strategy
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (such as in Contemporary Art, Art History, Curatorial Studies, Arts Management, Fine Arts).
- A strong knowledge of contemporary art and culture within Australia, and a commitment to promoting the work of living artists.
- Demonstrated project management experience with particular emphasis on multitasking; ideally working across curatorial and exhibition projects in an art institution or similar.
- Demonstrated administrative, planning, project management and budget management skills.
- Excellent organisational, administrative and problem-solving skills with high level attention to detail.
- Demonstrated capacity for sustained effort, responsiveness to changing priorities and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships
