Aboriginal Cultural Development Officer
As a result of the Destination Dubbo: International Ready funding Dubbo Regional Council is constructing the Wiradjuri Tourism Centre (Final Facility name yet to be determined). This facility will present a range of new programs and services and has been developed to become a significant new tourism facility for the region, supporting increased international visitation. The facility will focus on presenting an educative and immersive experience of Wiradjuri Culture, including historical and contemporary exhibitions, events, education programs, artist residencies and performances. The facility will also be home to a commercial gallery, shop and café.
This role will be responsible for developing and actioning a program of cultural experiences (exhibitions, events, workshops, and community development programs) primarily presented at the Wiradjuri Tourism Experience. Their work will be to provide the facility’s high-level cultural content, which draws visitation and engagement to the facility. Alongside the wider Cultural Development Team, this role will focus on developing and presenting First Nations cultural experiences across the region. They will work directly with the community to support community expectations and cultural safety.
This role has been highlighted as one that should be filled by a person who identifies as Aboriginal. The work undertaken by this person requires high-level cultural knowledge and will work directly with the community to develop and present exhibitions and community events. There is a very high community and sector expectation that the programming should be led by someone who identifies as Aboriginal.
Dubbo Regional Council considers being Aboriginal a genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
