Inspiring presentations will focus on the use of oral history in creatively capturing and recording our past. Themes to be covered include: creating content, working critically and ethically; preserving oral histories; challenges of using oral histories in interpretation; educational potential.

 John Haworth from the National Museum of the American Indian speaking on 18 April

 

On Monday 18 April, John Haworth the director of the National Museum of the American Indian in New York will be speaking at the Australia Council’s Rover Thomas Auditorium.

The National Museum of the American Indian is the sixteenth museum of the Smithsonian Institution. It is the first national museum dedicated to the preservation, study, and exhibition of the life, languages, literature, history, and arts of Native Americans. Established in 1989 the museum works in collaboration with the Native peoples of the Western Hemisphere to protect and foster their cultures by reaffirming traditions and beliefs, encouraging contemporary artistic expression, and empowering the Indian voice.
