Former President, Lady Denman Heritage Complex, Huskisson

Morgan Sant has had an academic career, working in England and Canada before coming to the University of New South Wales in 1977.   In 2002 he retired from his position as Associate Dean of Science.   During his tenure, one of Morgan’s achievements was developing a science-communication program and supporting the development of the science outreach centre.

Soon after his retirement Morgan became involved with the Lady Denman Heritage Complex, a volunteer-based community museum with roughly 180 volunteers and two paid staff members.  Becoming President in 2003 Morgan oversaw the Lady Denman’s continued popularity within the community. Morgan’s involvement in the regional museum sector saw him selected as a Reviewer with the Museums & Galleries NSW Standards Program.  Between 2005 and 2007 Morgan advised small museums on strategies for improving their policies and procedures.  In 2008 Morgan stepped down from the Presidency and took on the role of Treasurer.

Morgan’s studies, which include a PhD thesis addressing the regional effects of economic cycles, lend themselves to addressing the issue of how to keep museums and galleries afloat in the face on financial strain.
