M&G NSW weekly
email bulletin:
The program commenced in 2005, following the development of a strategic plan funded by M&G NSW and Council. Advisor Libby Newell has provided support in the development of new exhibition areas at the Greens Gunyah Museum including the installation of the Doris Golder Collection of Wool Portraits and Landscapes amd the Big Brookong exhibition.
This new facility has led to a more than 500% increase in visitors to the museum. Libby has also facilitated collection management training in collaboration with the Powerhouse Museum and delivered significance assessment workshops to volunteers at the Green’s Gunyah museum. A partnership with the local central school has resulted in senior students transferring the collection catalogue from a card index to the MOSAIC database.
In 2009 the museum opened a new thematic exhibition focusing on the Brookong collection. This collection is of national significance for its association with the 1888 Shearer’s Strike and its ability to define historical patterns of pastoral settlement, land acquisition and closer settlement.
